Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400

It’s very rare to be able to pinpoint the exact song that made you fall in love with a genre. This one did it for me. I remember trekking down to the south side of Brooklyn as young teenager because a friend of mine heard of an all age club. We went into the Purple Lounge ready for booty shaking hiphop and girls moving accordingly, as it was the only music we’d really known. Instead, we were greeted by a plethora of underground techno, house, and new wave. I’d never been so confused, but I liked it. It was audio sci-fi. Despite my buddy’s lack of enthusiasm with the sound, I convinced him to stay to “see if things pick up”.

As the night progressed, this gem came on, complete with the extended vocal chants that everyone in the room matched at the top of their lungs. I’d never felt a crowd share a moment like that. For the first time ever, I felt the rush that comes with electronic music. The floor had no individuals. Everyone was one with the music and each other.
